Jennifer Houlihan - Director of Operations

When did you first join Cascade Productions?

July 2007, thrown into the deep end working on an Iceland conference in their warehouse … my first task was to lay out 1000 chairs, with no line guides or help … the feedback was they weren't straight, which still haunts me to this day.

What is your job and what does it entail?

Basically organising Alan… other than that, all aspects of operations, account management, strategic business development, motivating/ de-motiving the team, generally getting stuff done.

What’s one thing about your job that people don’t know?

It's not as glamorous as it sounds.

What’s the best part of working at Cascade?

Being part of a team.

What’s the best part of your job?

Seeing the delegates faces when all the hard work pays off.

What’s the most challenging part of your job?

Dealing with holiday requests.

Name one of the most memorable events you’ve been on and why? (if this applies)

Iceland Store Managers Conference, Disney World Florida 2009.  Because it was a perfectly organised event, all aspects went well and our internal teams co-ordinated and complemented each other resulting in an outstanding conference, giving a great sense of achievement.

This was also my first event directly responsible for logistics, with 8 planes flying from the UK, 1026 delegates, 3 evening venues, 8 different excursion options and then the crew to organise.

At the end of the 4 x 18hr shifts there was Bud-lite lime served by the pool.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

Don’t make it more complicated than it needs to be.

Describe the events industry in three words.

Monstrous, exciting,  monstrously-exciting.

Describe yourself in three words.

Determined, meticulous and a control-freak.

If you could swap jobs with anyone on the team for one day who would it be and why?

Alan, so I could do it better.

If you could work on any event in the world what would it be and why?

The Royal Tours.
